Breakdown Blues

I haven’t been able to get my bench to break down either a found pike or a throwing axe. Do I need to try and fix up the pike? Did this ever happen to anyone else? Has anyone else gotten it to work?

Different part, but maybe still relevant, to my query. Are they going to release a patch for this?
