The Emperor of Khitai, Li-Yah, rules from the city of Paikang. His Imperial Legion guard him every moment of every day, hard-bitten warriors who rotate between duty in the imperial city and fighting off Hyrkanians on the Great Wall.
This armor is rumored to be a gift from The Scarlet Circle, a cabal of sorcerers who serve the Empire much as the Black Ring in Stygia. The leader of the Scarlet Circle, Yah-Chieng, is the half-brother of the current emperor, and is said to have enchanted the breastplates of the Imperial Legion to attract blades, pulling the weapons of would-be assassins toward the emperors bodyguards rather than the emperor himself.
How such an impressive item came to the Exiled Lands, and by which path it traveled from the imperial palace in Paikang, is unknown.
