When the horse-archers of Hyrkania came raiding into the Empire of Khitai, the locals found themselves unable to stand against the onslaught. The superiority of the horsemen and their archery made short work of the poorly-trained and poorly-prepared locals.
Khitan archers have traditionally been weaker than their counterparts on the other side of the Great Wall. But their bows, crafted from all the magnificent materials that the empire can access, are of the highest quality. The problem exists between bowstring and archer. It's a PEBBAA problem.
In trained hands, bows are lethal weapons that can bring down a foe from afar. A large part of the versatility of the bow comes from the arrows used in battle.
