Grave Matter is an encounter in Conan Exiles.
It was originally introduced as Grave Matters, a limited-time event scheduled to run from December 8, 2021 until January 10, 2022,[1] but it was later extended until January 17, 2022.[2]
While it was not planned for the event to make any future returns,[3] lead designer Den later said that it would return in 3.0.[4]
With the release of the Age of Sorcery, the encounter became a feature of the normal game, but the loot chest at the conclusion of the encounter has been removed.
All encounters can be enabled and disabled at any time by Funcom and have frequently been disabled due to various issues with them.
Encounter[]
During the original event, a summoner could appear in one of three random sites on the map that were marked with a special red icon.
In the new iteration, the encounters are no longer marked on the map.

* These thralls were initially Overseer Taskmasters during the original event, and changed to priests after the event ended.
During the ritual encounter, the NPCs normally present within the summoning area are absent.
When the site is approached, a summoner can be found protected by an invincible barrier and several totems will rise out of the ground. Hostile undead enemies will periodically be summoned near the totems and corrupting mist will billow from the totems' mouths.
The undead enemies can be killed for minor loot or experience, but killing them is not necessary and they can also be ignored.
Each totem has to be destroyed. Once all totems are eliminated, the barrier surrounding the summoner will shatter with a bright flash of light and they will become vulnerable and hostile.
Killing the summoner will end the ritual and any remaining undead will also immediately die. All the local NPCs will begin returning shortly after the event has ended.
Loot Chest (original event only)[]
During the original run of the encounter, a loot chest that resembled a Wooden Box with glowing yellow sparks and wisps coming out would appear nearby. Anyone could loot the chest until it despawned a while after the ritual was stopped, whether they had participated in the event or not.
The loot chest contained a random number of Potion of Lost Souls and at least one of the following items unique to the event:
- Skelos Cultist Master's Hood
- Skelos Cultist Master's Robe
- Skelos Cultist Master's Handwraps
- Skelos Cultist Master's Skirt
- Skelos Cultist Master's Shoes
Aside from the Torn Parchment, all of the encounter items are now learned from recipes dropped by T3-T4 Sorcerers or found in specific locations.
