Description[]
Gavain was a member of the Free Companies, a red-handed mercenary who fought and plundered wherever he was commanded. He earned considerable fame during a border skirmish between two Shemitish city-states when he defended a corridor against a surging rush of men.
Shortly afterwards, however, he was struck down by the one ailment for which there is no cure - love. He followed a golden-haired Aesir warrioress into the north, abandoning his gear which, according to mercenary legend, rusted overnight.
Nothing is known of the fate of Gavain of his gear, though it is still said of any mercenary who abandons the companies for a woman that they have been touched by Gavain's pike.
