As an improvement over more archaic smelting holes, the heat in a fuel-efficient furnace is fanned by air entering through an aperture at the bottom of a smelting shaft positioned to capture the prevailing winds. This refinement helps to reduce the cost of fuels such as coal, wood, and ores needed for processing.

Designed to heat ore to incredibly high temperatures in order to extract pure metals, this furnace requires charcoal and ores for processing and catalysts such as Steelfire for strengthening. Intense heat can also be used to harden certain types of stone and a furnace can be used in conjunction with other concoctions to create hardened stone bricks.
