Across the Vilayet, where the blue sea gives way to the steppes, the Hyrkanians live in the saddle from the day that they are born - learning to shoot, fight and eat.
This bow was crafted for the son of a great khan, but the boy was trampled by bulls before he was ten years old and the old khan was left with nothing but the bow in memory of his favored son.
The old khan claimed that the bow would whisper to him with the voice of his son, telling him where to find water and how to avoid enemies. The Khan's other sons saw this as a sign of their father being unfit to rule, and promptly knifed him in the back.
The bow was given away, or lost, or sold. And the son of the khan was forgotten.
