Description
Commonly harvested from trees using a pick or pickaxe, Bark is a relatively rare early game resource. Bark can be obtained from most trees but some trees yield more than others. The best source of bark appears to be the dead trees and fallen logs [which appear bleached white]. It is used for tanning leather and as a meagre fuel source. Bark burns twice as long as wood does in fires. Bark is also used to run a Dryer which can produce longer lasting food or Dry Wood which is the most effective burnable fuel source. A byproduct of using bark in the tanning process is Tar. Tar is a critical resource for late game as it is used to create Steelfire and thus Steel, needed in most late game weapons, armour and buildings. Tar is also used in many explosive recipes thus making it important for raiding and even defence. This makes Bark a critical resource that should not be underestimated as Tanning is one of the two methods of producing Tar.
The leatherworkers of Kordava are renowned for their supple and pliant leather. Their process for tanning, and the bark that they use, is a well-guarded secret. Teas brewed from the bark of certain trees are rumoured to cure many different kinds of ailment.
