The Ancient Obolus is an item related to the Bounty Hunting event. They are obtained as a reward by dropping Sorcerer's Skull or Magi Skull on the Tribute Basin, or by delivering a live sorcerer Thrall to the cage on their camp. It is used as currency to purchase multiple items and recipes from the event vendor Khitan Bounty Hunter.
On the Age of War - Chapter 1 update, Ancient Oboli could be obtained by opening an 
Ophidian Magi's Cache or 
Grand Ophidian Magi's Cache bought at Mek-kamoses's Spire for 15 
Blood Crystal or the 
Severed Head of Kurak, respectively.
With the Age of War - Chapter 2, it was no longer possible to obtain nor spend them, as there were no merchants that accepted them.
Age of War - Chapter 4 saw the reintroduction of the event with new rewards available.
